SCIMS Set For December Rollout To Safeguard Supply Chains -- Tengku Zafrul

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 (Bernama) — The Supply Chain Intelligent Management System (SCIMS), an initiative by the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), is set to go live in December 2025, according to MITI Minister, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz.

He said that based on vulnerabilities and risk profile, the ministry has developed supply chain mappings for eight sectors to identify and document every industry player along the whole sectoral supply chain.

The eight sectors include pharmaceutical, medical devices, personal protective equipment, electrical and electronics, automotive, as well as food and beverage for livestock, aquaculture and agriculture.

“The whole idea of SCIMS is to map out key sectors of our country. The idea actually started during COVID-19, because when COVID-19 happened, we wanted to know the areas where we needed to ensure the supply chain was resilient.

“Now with the tariff challenges, we also want to know where the vulnerabilities are for our industries, especially key industries,” he told a press conference during the MBSB Group Anchor Companies Open Day & Vendor Business Matching Sessions here today.

During the event, Tengku Zafrul also announced a RM100 million financing under MIDF’s Global Market Access Accelerator (GLOMAX), designed to prepare and propel at least 50 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and mid-tier companies (MTCs) into international markets.

He said the programme's focus is not only on financing, but also on advisory services to build companies’ capacity to compete abroad in a structured, sustainable manner.

GLOMAX is also designed to complement existing export programmes by Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and SME Corporation Malaysia (SME Corp).

“It's important that banks like MBSB Bhd give support to our supply chain. To have economic security, you need to ensure your supply chain is secure and resilient, and with the realignment of the supply chain worldwide, we need to be mindful of the impact on Malaysia,” he said.

Meanwhile, Tengku Zafrul said Malaysia is championing greater regional supply chain resilience and integration through ASEAN chairmanship in 2025.

“By strengthening our local vendor ecosystem, our companies and SMEs can actively leverage regional partnerships to drive new regional supply chains and investment opportunities that spell robust growth,” he said.

Held at the Sime Darby Convention Centre, the MBSB Group Anchor Companies Open Day & Vendor Business Matching Sessions connected over 400 SMEs and vendors with 20 major anchor companies, positioning the event as a landmark in strengthening Malaysia’s supply chain ecosystem.

“SMEs, after all, make up roughly 98 per cent of registered businesses in Malaysia. Thus, the more we elevate Malaysian SMEs into the supply chains of large companies, the more empowered they are to innovate, grow, and create high-quality jobs,” said Tengku Zafrul.

He also stressed the importance of public-private partnerships to achieve results.

“As MITI Minister, I am encouraged to see government-linked companies and industry leaders here collaborating with agencies like MBSB Bank and MIDF.

“This bridges the gap between policy and execution, ensuring our strategies are inclusive of all stakeholders to truly catalyse industrial development,” he added.
