DPM Fadillah To Chair 43rd ASEAN Energy Ministers’ Meeting On Oct 16-17
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who is also the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), will chair the 43rd ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) and its related meetings, scheduled for Oct 16-17, 2025.
PETRA said the meeting serves as ASEAN’s premier platform for regional energy cooperation, bringing together Energy Ministers from ASEAN member states, representatives from ASEAN Dialogue Partners, leading international energy organisations, multilateral development banks, industry leaders and technical experts.
“As chair of the 43rd AMEM and related meetings, PETRA reaffirms Malaysia’s commitment to advancing energy transition efforts both domestically and regionally.
“In line with the Malaysia MADANI vision, PETRA also hopes that clean energy investments across ASEAN, particularly in Malaysia, will continue to grow in accordance with the country’s aspiration to accelerate its energy transition and build a globally competitive green ecosystem,” the ministry said in a statement today.
Malaysia last chaired the ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting in 2015.
According to PETRA, the 43rd AMEM will deliberate on several strategic issues, including the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) 2026–2030, which will serve as the region’s strategic energy roadmap for the next five years.
Other key agendas include several regional Memoranda of Understanding, among them under the ASEAN Power Grid (APG) and the ASEAN Petroleum Security Agreement, aimed at strengthening energy interconnectivity, advancing the low-carbon transition, and enhancing regional energy security.
The meeting will also witness the proposed ASEAN Power Grid Financing (APGF) initiative — a joint financing platform developed with the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank— expected to mobilise over US$12.5 billion to support cross-border grid interconnection projects.
“As the 2025 ASEAN Chair, Malaysia is leading the regional energy agenda with a strong focus on advancing the APG — a key enabler for building a resilient energy supply and addressing climate challenges.
“Malaysia also emphasises closer collaboration in developing a regional energy market and establishing common standards for Renewable Energy Certificates across ASEAN,” PETRA said.
In recognition of regional energy excellence, the ASEAN Energy Awards 2025 will be held on Oct 16, featuring three major award categories — the ASEAN Coal Awards, the ASEAN Energy Efficiency and Conservation Best Practices Awards, and the ASEAN Renewable Energy Awards.
At the same time, the ASEAN Energy Business Forum (AEBF) 2025 will take place alongside the ministerial meetings, providing a key platform for private sector players, including investors, industry leaders, financiers, and project developers, to explore partnership opportunities to accelerate ASEAN’s energy transition.
