PETALING JAYA, Oct 16 (Bernama) -- Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd (Rapid KL) is prepared to increase the number and frequency of trains during the ASEAN Summit 2025, which will be held from Oct 26 to 28.

Its acting chief executive officer, Nor Azmi Mohd Yusof said the company will review its operating schedule and extend peak hours if necessary to facilitate smoother travel for commuters.

“We will operate as usual during the ASEAN Summit, but are aware that several main routes will be closed. If needed, Rapid KL will deploy additional trains and extend peak-hour frequency to accommodate passengers,” he told a press conference today.

Earlier, it was reported that several major roads and highways in the capital city will be closed in stages from Oct 26 to 28, in conjunction with the 47th ASEAN Summit.

The KLCC area is expected to experience heavy traffic, and the public is encouraged to use public transport during the summit.

Nor Azmi said the procurement of 27 new train sets (KLAV27) for the Kelana Jaya Line and the installation of automatic platform gates (APG) on the KL Monorail Line were completed in December last year.

He added that for the Ampang and Kelana Jaya lines, the tender and contractor appointment processes for APG installation are ongoing, with installation expected to begin at the end of this year and completed within 16 months.

“These two lines are the only ones without automatic platform gates. We have begun installing temporary barriers covering up to 70 per cent of the platform area to reduce the risk of passengers falling,” he said.

Rapid KL is also reviewing its feeder bus routes and working with the police (PDRM) to ensure smooth bus operations.

According to Nor Azmi, this is part of efforts to achieve an average of 1.35 million passengers daily by December.

He said Rapid KL is also improving crisis management training to keep frontline staff ready and strengthening the role of Incident Commanders for better coordination during service disruptions.
