ASEAN Summit: LLM, PDRM Implement Comprehensive Traffic Management Plan
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM), in collaboration with highway concessionaires and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), is implementing a comprehensive traffic management plan to ensure smooth traffic flow in conjunction with the 47th ASEAN Summit, which will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) from Oct 26 to 28.
LLM, in a statement today, said the initiative is in line with the directive of Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi to ensure that the movement of heads of state and governmentand international delegates proceeds smoothly and safely throughout the high-profile conference.
“The summit will bring together heads of state and government and high-level delegations from across the region and beyond, requiring close coordination and proactive measures to ensure the smooth movement and safety of all parties involved.
“As the agency overseeing the country’s highway operations, LLM has established strategic cooperation with PDRM, other enforcement agencies and highway concessionaires to implement a comprehensive traffic management plan throughout the conference period,” it said.
In addition, LLM said all highway traffic support systems, including variable message signs (VMS), closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras and the Traffic Monitoring Centre (TMC), are being maintained at optimal levels to ensure effective traffic monitoring and control.
“To ensure smooth travel between the airport and the city centre, all maintenance and construction works involving lane closures on major highways will be temporarily suspended, except for emergency cases, from Oct 23 to 29,” it added.
LLM advised all highway users, particularly those travelling around the Klang Valley and areas near the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), to cooperate by planning their journeys in advance and checking current traffic updates through official channels.
Motorists are also reminded to comply with all instructions and signals issued by the police and highway patrol teams, and to stay alert to any official announcements on traffic diversions along major routes in Kuala Lumpur between Oct 23 and 28.
