Prabowo Set For Back-To-back ASEAN And APEC Summits
JAKARTA, Oct 22 (Bernama) -- Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is set to attend the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur, as well as the 2025 APEC Summit in Gyeongju, South Korea, in late October and early November, Foreign Minister Sugiono said.
Held under Malaysia’s 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship theme, “Inclusivity and Sustainability”, the ASEAN summits are scheduled from Oct 26 to 28 while APEC’s main sessions will be held from Oct 31 to Nov 2.
“We are preparing for both events,” Sugiono said was quoted as saying by Metro TV News on Wednesday, noting that the summits will underscore Indonesia’s commitment to stability, peace and inclusive economic growth.
The ASEAN Summit will include 25 high-level meetings covering economic cooperation, clean energy transition and digital economy development, with leaders also expected to explore the peaceful use of nuclear energy within an integrated ASEAN power grid.
Other agenda items include the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and ASEAN’s role in the Middle East peace efforts, while the meeting will also mark the formal admission of Timor-Leste as the bloc’s 11th full member.
After the ASEAN sessions, Prabowo will travel to South Korea for the APEC Summit, themed “Building a Sustainable Tomorrow”, which aligns with the APEC Putrajaya Vision 2040 aiming for an open, resilient and peaceful Asia-Pacific.
The APEC events, to be held across Gyeongju, Jeju, Incheon and Busan, will feature the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week from Oct 27 October to November 1, comprising the Concluding Senior Officials’ Meeting, Ministerial Meeting and Economic Leaders’ Meeting.
