KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 23 (Bernama) -- Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and United States (US) President Donald Trump could meet in Malaysia in the coming days as Brazil navigates hefty tariffs imposed by Washington, Reuters reported, citing Brazilian diplomatic sources.

According to Reuters, Brazilian newspaper O Globo reported late Tuesday (Oct 21), citing sources, that a meeting between the two leaders is scheduled to take place on Sunday (Oct 26) in Malaysia, although the exact time is yet to be decided.

Brazilian diplomats told Reuters they are cautious on the matter as there has been no official confirmation from the White House.

A White House official said earlier that there were "discussions about facilitating such a meeting" in Malaysia following a friendly call between both heads of state last month, during which they discussed economic and trade relations.

Both leaders are expected to attend the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, which will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here from Oct 26 to 28.

More than 30 heads of state and government are expected to convene in the capital city to discuss regional peace, economic resilience and inclusive growth under Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2025 themed “Inclusivity and Sustainability”.

A total of 2,854 media personnel from 290 agencies have registered to cover the historic event, which will also mark the formal admission of Timor-Leste as ASEAN’s 11th member, symbolising Southeast Asia’s unity and continued expansion.
