KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 23 (Bernama) -- The ASEAN Geoeconomics Task Force (AGTF) report will be tabled at the Joint Meeting of ASEAN Foreign and Economic Ministers scheduled for this Saturday in conjunction with the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Secretary-General Datuk Seri Amran Mohamed Zin said the report focuses on achieving greater alignment and coordination between the ASEAN Political-Security Community (APSC) and the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).

Amran, who also heads Malaysia’s Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) for ASEAN, said the meeting is expected to issue a joint statement outlining the direction for enhanced coordination between the two communities for the benefit of ASEAN as a whole.

Foreign Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Seri Amran Mohamed Zin, who is also Malaysia’s ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) Leader, chairs the ASEAN Joint Senior Officials’ Meeting–Senior Economic Officials’ Meeting in conjunction with the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) here today.

“Today we held a joint meeting between senior officials from the Political-Security Pillar and the Economic Pillar, which stemmed from a proposal by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) last July.

“The Prime Minister had put forward the policy direction for ASEAN to strengthen coordination between the APSC and the AEC,” he told reporters after chairing the Joint SOM and Senior Economic Officials Meeting (SEOM) here.

Amran said the meeting also received a briefing from the AGTF on current geopolitical and geoeconomic developments in the region and globally, including the challenges, risks, and opportunities facing ASEAN.

Malaysia, as this year’s ASEAN Chair under the theme ‘Inclusivity and Sustainability’, is set to host the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from Oct 26 to 28.
