KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 (Bernama) -- Thailand aims to promote a greener economy and position itself as a regional hub for food security in the future, according to its Minister of Commerce Suphajee Suthumpun.

She said the Thai government has urged the private sector to focus on this key industry, which is pivotal towards building a more sustainable future for the country amid climate and geopolitical uncertainties.

“I believe that Thailand is actually more than ready, because we are actually a provider in terms of food and agricultural products, and we're going to add more green layers into our agricultural industry.

“We also encourage the private sector to focus and embrace environmental, social and governance (ESG) and digital practice. I think this would actually help support the country moving forward.”

Suphajee said this at the ‘Leader Fireside Chat’ session, moderated by former Malaysian Cabinet Minister Khairy Jamaluddin during the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (ABIS) 2025 held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here, today.

Suphajee also highlighted several key industries that Thailand focuses on, which include digital artificial intelligence (AI), advanced semiconductor, next-generation automotive, food security, clean energy and biotechnology.

“Additionally, the digital industry is key. As the Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA) chairman of the negotiating committee, Thailand is going to position ASEAN as a connectivity to the world, in regard to the digital landscape and digital ecosystem, providing interoperability.

“We are going to support ASEAN to move forward, and I believe that this is actually going to be the fundamental for our region,” she added.

The two-day ABIS being held from today is hosted by the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC) with the theme "Unifying markets for shared prosperity".

The summit is organised in conjunction with the upcoming 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits.
