MOH Mobilises 512 Staff For ASEAN Summit Operations
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 26 (Bernama) -- The Health Ministry (MOH) is in its highest state of readiness to ensure smooth and safe health, medical and emergency operations throughout the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, which began today.
Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said 512 personnel from 30 hospitals nationwide, including three university hospitals, have been mobilised for the summit.
“Of the total, 240 comprise emergency physicians, medical officers, assistant medical officers, trained nurses and ambulance drivers, while the remaining 272 involve public health, food safety and quality officers.
“The team is led by Dr Muhammad Yunus Tauhid Ahmad as Chief Coordinator and Dr Hafiz Syarbaini Mansor as Chief Medical Officer for the summit,” he said in a statement.
Dzulkefly said the team is responsible for ensuring that medical treatment, infectious disease control, food safety, and the readiness of ambulance and mobile medical units remain at optimal levels.
He said MOH has also stationed personnel at the Bunga Raya Complex, Kuala Lumpur International Airport, which serves as the main arrival point for heads of state and government attending the summit.
In addition, two fully equipped medical rooms have been set up at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, the main location of the summits, functioning as a ‘mini hospital’ with eight beds, patient monitoring equipment, defibrillators and emergency medicines.
“One is designated for heads of state and government, while the other caters to delegates and summit staff,” he said.
Dzulkefly said that MOH has strengthened public health control measures by inspecting accommodation hotels two weeks prior to the summit, conducting daily food sampling and declaring the summit area a smoke-free zone.
“Behind the success of this event, our health frontliners continue to serve tirelessly, responsively and professionally to ensure the ASEAN Summit runs safely. Let us all pray for its smooth proceedings,” he said.
The 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits are being held from Oct 26 to 28.
