KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 27 (Bernama) -- China is willing to strengthen the alignment of development strategies with all parties as well as uphold openness and cooperation to jointly create a new chapter of development and success in East Asia.
Chinese Premier Li Qiang said East Asia's long-standing commitment to openness and cooperation has enabled countries in the region to transcend differences in social systems, achieve complementarity through collaboration, and avoid economic issues being politicised or securitised.
Speaking at the 28th ASEAN+3 Summit today, he noted that although East Asian countries are now at different stages of development compared to the past, reviewing and learning from history can offer valuable insights and inspiration for the future.
"For decades, it is because we have upheld openness and cooperation that we have been able to transcend differences in social systems, leverage our respective strengths and economic patterns, and achieve mutual complementarity among the nations.
"It is also because of openness and cooperation that we have avoided economic issues being politicised or securitised, instead managing and resolving differences through communication, dialogue and coordination, thereby minimising disruptions to economic development," said Li, who spoke in Mandarin.
The ASEAN+3 Summit, held on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, was co-chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Li, Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu, and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung.
The Chinese Premier emphasised that openness and cooperation also facilitate steady progress in regional connectivity, further invigorate market dynamics, and create shared development opportunities.
"Openness and cooperation are a valuable shared experience gained through years of practice and exploration. We should cherish it, remain steadfast in our commitment, and ensure that openness and cooperation continue to serve as a defining strength of East Asia's economy," he said.
He underscored that over the past year, ASEAN's cooperation with China, Japan, and South Korea has maintained positive momentum, demonstrating the resilience and vitality of the East Asian economy.
