KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 (Bernama) -- The signing of the upgraded ASEAN-China Free Trade Area (ACFTA 3.0), the closing ceremony of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, and the official Handing Over of the ASEAN Chairmanship to the Philippines, will headline the final day of the summit.

According to the official programme, the day will commence with the signing ceremony of the ACFTA 3.0 Upgrade, from 9 am to 9.20 am, attended by ASEAN heads of state and government, as well as Chinese leaders and delegates.

The ACFTA 3.0 Upgrade marks a new milestone in the ASEAN-China strategic partnership, aimed at enhancing regional economic resilience, and underscoring the bloc’s shared commitment to inclusivity and sustainability.

The event will be followed by the 28th ASEAN-China Summit, from 9.30 am to 10.30 am, involving leaders and delegations from both sides. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is also expected to hold a bilateral meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang on the sidelines of the summit.

ASEAN leaders are also scheduled to participate in a series of key meetings and sessions with major dialogue partners, namely China, New Zealand and Australia.

At 12 pm, the ASEAN-New Zealand Commemorative Summit will be held, followed by the ASEAN-New Zealand Gala Lunch, attended by ASEAN heads of state and government.

The 5th ASEAN-Australia Summit will convene at 2.30 pm, providing a platform for ASEAN leaders and their Australian counterparts to explore new avenues for cooperation, and further strengthen economic and strategic ties.

The day’s proceedings will culminate with the closing ceremony of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, followed by the official Handing Over of the ASEAN Chairmanship to the Philippines, scheduled from 3.45 pm to 4.15 pm.

The summit will conclude with a press conference by ASEAN Chair, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, scheduled at 4.30 pm.

The 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, held from Oct 26 to 28, mark one of the largest gatherings in the bloc’s history, bringing together regional and global leaders to chart the future direction of ASEAN cooperation.

The meetings served as a vital platform to strengthen collaboration, and address regional and global challenges in a cohesive and inclusive manner.

The Philippines will assume the ASEAN chairmanship from Malaysia in 2026.
