KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 (Bernama) -- A total of 80 outcome documents were adopted during the 47th ASEAN Summit held from Oct 26 to 28, marking another milestone in regional cooperation and partnership.

Prime Minister’s senior press secretary, Tunku Nashrul Abaidah, said that the documents included joint statements between ASEAN leaders and their counterparts from the United States, Japan, India, New Zealand and Australia.

He said the outcomes also stemmed from the ASEAN+3 Summit, the East Asia Summit (EAS), the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) Leaders’ Meeting, and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Summit.

“Among the proudest achievements was the formal admission of Timor-Leste as a full member of ASEAN, following its application for membership in 2011. This milestone underscores ASEAN’s principle of inclusivity and Malaysia’s long-held vision of shared regional prosperity,” he said in a daily briefing by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) today.

Another significant achievement, he said, was the signing of the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord between Thailand and Cambodia, witnessed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and United States President Donald Trump.

Tunku Nashrul said this accord reflects Malaysia’s steadfast commitment and proactive role in facilitating regional disputes through peaceful and constructive means.

“Malaysia also expresses appreciation to the US for its role in supporting dialogue and consensus-building,” he said.

On the economic front, Tunku Nashrul said the summit concluded two significant trade initiatives, namely the upgraded ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA) and the ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA) 3.0, which will expand market access, streamline procedures and open new opportunities in digital and green economies.

He said ASEAN leaders also reaffirmed the Five-Point Consensus (5PC) as the key reference for addressing the situation in Myanmar and urged its full implementation, particularly in halting violence and enhancing humanitarian assistance.

Tunku Nashrul noted that the leaders also exchanged views on the South China Sea and Palestine issues, with Malaysia reiterating its unwavering support for peace, as well as efforts to address transnational crimes such as online and job scams, food security and energy transition.

Meanwhile, Tunku Nashrul said Malaysia fully supports the Philippines as it prepares to assume the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2026, expressing hope that the spirit of unity and cooperation fostered in Kuala Lumpur will continue to flourish in the years ahead.
