KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 28 (Bernama) -- Peace is not easy to sustain, yet the benefits for humanity are immense if people can coexist despite their differences, said Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) M Kulasegaran.

Given the conflicts and disagreements prevalent across almost every continent today, he emphasised that unity and mutual understanding are essential to protect global peace.

"When we look around the world today, we see conflict and disagreement on almost every continent. But if we can find a way to get along, humanity stands to benefit immensely," he said.

Kulasegaran made this statement in a Facebook post following his closing address for the Rotary ASEAN Youth Peacebuilders Programme 2026 (RAYPP) at Sunway University, which gathered 33 youth participants from 11 countries.

He told the participants they were gaining more than academic qualifications or professions; they were acquiring the essential skills to secure a future of prosperity through lasting peace.

Reflecting on ASEAN's formation in 1967, Kulasegaran noted that despite a history of conflict among neighboring nations, the founding members chose to pursue unity.

"We had history and conflicts with our neighbours. Yet, we chose unity. Today, it is up to this young generation to foster that understanding and prove that peace is far more important than anything else in this world," he said.

He also congratulated the Rotary Club of Ipoh Central, District 3300, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and Sunway University for successfully organising the 12-day programme.
