ASEAN Records, ASIA Records Recognise 34 New Records At Gather Of Achievers
KUALA LUMPUR, March 12 (Bernama) -- A total of 34 achievements were recognised at the 8th ASEAN Records and 2nd ASIA Records Gather of Achievers – Chinese New Year Celebration 2026 held here yesterday, comprising 16 ASEAN Records and 18 ASIA Records.
In a statement, ASEAN Records and ASIA Records said the recognitions were presented to acknowledge outstanding accomplishments across various industries and sectors.
The event, which brought together more than 100 record holders, reflects the vision of ASEAN Records and ASIA Records to be more than just record-keeping organisations, but also platforms that connect achievers and foster a strong community among record holders.
“Since its launch in November 2024, the platform has organised seven Gather of Achievers events within a year, bringing past and newly recognised record holders together to share their journeys, build collaborations and celebrate achievements,” the statement read.
The ceremony was officiated by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Chan Foong Hin.
Among the key highlights of the evening was the official launch of the ASEAN Food Records and ASIA Food Records, also officiated by Chan together with the directors of ASEAN and ASIA Records, Eldrick Koh and Gillian Ooi.
The statement said the initiative aimed to recognise notable achievements related to food and gastronomy while celebrating the rich and diverse food heritage of ASEAN and ASIA, highlighting the importance of food culture as well as regional food brands.
“Food plays an important role in tourism and cultural identity. As a new sub-category under the ASEAN Records and ASIA Records recognition framework, the Food Records initiative will document and recognise remarkable food achievements, traditional culinary heritage and outstanding food brands, further promoting the region’s vibrant food culture,” it said.
Regarding an update on the ASEAN and ASIA Tourism Records initiative, which was recognised in February 2026 by Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, Tourism Records is now another sub-category under the ASEAN and ASIA Records framework, designed to document tourism destinations through verified and measurable records.
By recognising the unique characteristics, heritage and historical significance of tourism locations, the initiative helps the public better understand the stories and identities behind these destinations while supporting Visit Malaysia 2026 national tourism campaign.
During the event, ASEAN Records also announced that the Malaysia Book of Records founder, Tan Sri Danny Ooi, had joined the organisation as Chairman of the Advisory Board.
“With more than 30 years of experience in documenting achievements and record-keeping, Tan Sri Danny Ooi’s leadership and guidance will further strengthen the development of ASEAN Records as it expands its recognition platform across the region,” according to the statement.
In conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration, the Gather of Achievers event also featured a series of festive performances and cultural activities where guests enjoyed a Light-emitting diodes (LED) Lion Acrobatics performance, which symbolised prosperity and good fortune for the year ahead.
The event also featured a Face Mask Changing (Bian Lian) performance by Jin Long, a well-known personality who was previously a radio announcer on Melody FM, captivating the audience with the dramatic Sichuan opera art of instant mask changing.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, Master Suyen returned for the second year to share a Feng Shui talk, offering insights on prosperity and positive energy for the year ahead.
