BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, April 25 (Bernama) -- Preparations are in full swing at the International Convention Centre (ICC) here as the capital of Brunei gears up to host the 25th ASEAN-European Union Ministerial Meeting (AEMM).
Bernama’s observations showed workers and volunteers busily preparing the main meeting hall, bilateral rooms and other facilities, including arranging member states’ flags and technical equipment at meeting tables ahead of the arrival of delegates from ASEAN and the European Union (EU).
The two-day meeting, beginning Monday (April 27), will serve as a platform for discussions and exchanges on key issues, while strengthening ties between the two regions.
The meeting will also receive wide coverage from EU and ASEAN media organisations, including Malaysia, represented by Bernama and Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM).
Malaysia’s delegation will be led by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
Meanwhile, local e-hailing driver Awang Khairul Anuar Awang Khairie, 38, said hosting the international meeting is a matter of pride and reflects Brunei’s capability to organise major events.
“We, e-hailing and rental car drivers, are like small ambassadors for the country this week. We are among the first to interact with foreign media and delegation staff, so this is an opportunity to showcase Brunei’s courtesy and hospitality,” he said.
Restaurant operator Dayang Hajah Aminah Urkin, 52, said the meeting presents a valuable opportunity to introduce Brunei’s culinary heritage, noting that diplomacy also takes place through food.
“I would like to see guests from ASEAN and Europe try ‘ambuyat’ (Brunei’s national dish made from sago palm starch). A satisfied guest with a smile is also a success in introducing our country to the world,” she said.
