SINGAPORE, May 18 (Bernama) -- The growing partnership between Sarawak and Singapore in renewable energy supply signifies a collective effort to advance green economy across the Southeast Asia region.

Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg said the collaboration reflects Sarawak's bold vision to become the “Battery of ASEAN”, using its renewable resources to power a cleaner future for the entire region.

"Today, that vision is no longer just an ambition; this regional interconnection allows clean electricity to flow across borders.

"In one of the first live expressions of the ASEAN Power Grid, we are building a green energy corridor connecting two regions," he said in his keynote address at the Philanthropy Asia Summit 2026 on Monday.

Abang Johari emphasised that the Sarawak-Singapore partnership could serve as a model for deeper regional cooperation in new sectors as both sides work towards building a green economy together.

He noted that the commercial framework, policy architecture and technical groundwork for the collaboration are currently being developed.

“This is a supply relationship being built between two economies that both understand the requirements of energy security and the net zero transition.

"In other words, what we are proving through this partnership is that a sustainable, interconnected Southeast Asia is not just possible, but already under construction," he added.
