CAMBODIA

 

1.ENSURING PEACE AT BORDER AREA -- FRESH NEWS

The Philippines-led ASEAN Observer Team visited Banteay Meanchey Province to assess the security situation at the border area. The visit was to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand.

 

2.TWO-YEAR TAX RELIEF FOR CEMENT PRODUCERS -- FRESH NEWS

The government would extend the tax incentives to domestic cement manufacturers until the end of 2028. Cement companies have invested about US$1.2 billion (RM5 billion), and the combined production capacity is about 12 million tonnes per year.

1.Prabowo targets 800 underperforming SOEs for closure -- ANTARA

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has announced plans to dissolve up to 800 underperforming state-owned enterprises (SOEs) in a sweeping efficiency drive to curb massive state losses and eliminate corruption.

 

2.INDONESIA, CHINA RAMP UP DE-DOLLARIZATION EFFORT-- JAKARTA POST

Indonesia and China are looking to become less reliant on the United States dollar by pushing ahead with the local currency transaction (LCT) scheme to conduct cross-border trade and investment using their own currencies.

1.JAPANESE FUNDING TO DEVELOP HUMAN RESOURCES -- VIENTIANE TIMES 

Japan will provide US$3.2 million (RM13 million) as grant assistance to support human resource development in Laos. It will be funded through the Japanese Grant Aid for Human Resource Development Scholarship programme.

 

 2.NATIONAL PLAN TO ELIMINATE POVERTY -- VIENTIANE TIMES

The government is drafting a national agenda on rural development and poverty alleviation. About 15 per cent of families, 26 per cent of villages and 45 per cent of districts are reported to be officially below the poverty line.

1.INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT RAISED IN PARLIAMENT -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR

Lawmakers are debating plans to upgrade roads and construct bridges in their constituencies. Some of the infrastructure was destroyed by the March 2025 earthquake and the ongoing conflict in parts of the country.

 

2.MOTORCYCLE SIDECARS REGISTRATION STALLED -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR

The government will not register more than 80,000 motorcycle sidecars currently operating in the Yangon region. These vehicles cannot be officially registered or licensed because they were not legally imported into the country.
