Egypt, Russia Explore Joint Projects, Seasonal Flights To Boost Cooperation
KUALA LUMPUR, July 23 (Bernama) -- Egypt and Russia are seeking to expand cooperation through new joint economic projects, including a logistics corridor for grain and petroleum products, while exploring the launch of seasonal flights to boost tourism.
The initiatives were discussed during a meeting between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Manila, according to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.
The ministers reviewed progress on several strategic projects, with Abdelatty highlighting advances in the construction of the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, including the installation of the reactor vessel for the plant's second unit on July 9.
Abdelatty also welcomed the establishment of a Russian industrial zone within the Suez Canal Economic Zone and expressed hope that it would become operational soon.
“The two sides also discussed establishing a logistics corridor in Egypt for the storage and distribution of grain and petroleum products,” according to TV BRICS.
Russia also announced the completion of the initial accreditation of two international airports in Egypt, paving the way for the possible launch of seasonal flights between the two countries to help increase tourist arrivals.
For his part, Lavrov praised the strength of Russian-Egyptian relations and reaffirmed Moscow's commitment to further strengthening the strategic partnership while maintaining close coordination on regional and international issues.
On the sidelines of the ministerial meetings, Lavrov also attended the annual Russia-ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting, where both sides agreed to deepen cooperation in trade, investment, culture, education and humanitarian exchanges, while identifying food and energy security, digital transformation and the platform economy as priority areas for future collaboration.
