Malaysia Urges ASEAN To Strengthen Recognition Of Labour Skills
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 27 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has urged ASEAN countries to strengthen the recognition of skills and qualifications of the workforce to ensure that the region's talent not only meets industry needs, but is also able to compete globally.
Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan said the three priorities highlighted by Malaysia were strengthening joint certification and harmonisation of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) qualifications, expanding technology transfer and upskilling of teachers, and developing world-class training programmes in future fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), next-generation vehicles and robotics.
"Malaysia wants to ensure that skilled workers trained and qualified in ASEAN countries have skills that are trusted by the industry, are recognised across borders and have wider opportunities to build careers and compete on the global stage," he said in a Facebook post today.
Ramanan said the matter was raised at the 14th ASEAN Plus Three Labour Ministers' Meeting which brought together ASEAN countries, China, Japan and South Korea in Bangkok, Thailand, today.
He said collaboration with China, Japan and South Korea was important to accelerate the efforts through sharing expertise, technology and best practices.
“This collaboration is not just about certificate recognition, but about the future and value of our workforce,” he said.
Ramanan said Malaysia would continue to play an active role with ASEAN member states, China, Japan and South Korea to ensure that the region’s workforce has relevant skills, credible qualifications and the ability to compete anywhere.
“We want ASEAN talent to not just meet the needs of the future job market, but to be among the best skilled workers of choice in the world,” he said.
