Significant Potential for Malaysia-Finland Business Collaboration — Ambassador
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 9 (Bernama) -- There is significant potential for Malaysian and Finnish businesses to collaborate in areas such as digitalisation, artificial intelligence, the circular economy, renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, and education, Malaysia’s Ambassador to Finland Datuk Amarjit Sarjit Singh said.
Speaking at a reception to commemorate Malaysia’s 69th National Day in Helsinki on Tuesday, he said Finland is widely acknowledged for its achievements in education, research, innovation and the green transition.
“Malaysia, meanwhile, offers a dynamic economy, a young and diverse population, strategic connectivity, and access to the rapidly growing markets of ASEAN. These complementary strengths provide a strong foundation for a much closer partnership,” he said.

He said Malaysia and Finland may be geographically distant, but the two countries are closer than the map might suggest.
“Both countries have enjoyed diplomatic relations since 1973, and over the years, our relationship has expanded beyond diplomacy to include trade, investment, education, technology and sustainability,” he said.
Amarjit also encouraged Finnish companies, investors, universities and research institutions to look at Malaysia and ASEAN with renewed interest, noting that Malaysia could serve not only as a destination, but also as a gateway to Southeast Asia.
Meanwhile, the Embassy of Malaysia in Helsinki, in its statement, said the reception was honoured by the presence of Oulu Mayor Ari Alatossava as the Chief Guest. Also in attendance was Finland’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs Director General of the Department for Asia and Oceania, Keijo Norvanto.
Alatossava, in his address, conveyed his felicitations on the occasion of Malaysia’s National Day, and highlighted the importance of international cooperation and partnerships.
He noted that, despite the geographical distance between Oulu and Malaysia, the two share strong links, particularly in education, research, technology and innovation, with Malaysian students, academics and professionals making important contributions to Oulu’s international and innovation ecosystem.
The embassy said the 69th National Day Reception provided a meaningful occasion to celebrate Malaysia’s national milestone while reaffirming the close and longstanding friendship between Malaysia and Finland.
The reception also served as a platform to promote greater engagement between the two countries, including with partners and stakeholders in Oulu and Northern Finland, it added.
