Sarawak To Share Experience On Renewable Energy, Semiconductors At 47th ASEAN Summit
KUCHING, Oct 22 (Bernama) -- Sarawak will share its experience in developing renewable energy and semiconductor industries at the 47th ASEAN Summit, scheduled to be held from Oct 26 to 28 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the two key sectors, which are the focus of the state’s development agenda, could further strengthen Sarawak’s economic growth in line with the green economy and emerging technology agenda.
“I have been invited to share my views on the development taking place in Sarawak. In Sarawak, we adopt a balanced approach between technology and human capabilities.
“In the context of semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI) is highly dependent on chip functionality. Therefore, Sarawak is now focusing on education in the field of chip design,” he told reporters after officiating the 8th International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak (IDECS) here today.
In another development, Abang Johari welcomed the presence of United States President Donald Trump at the ASEAN Summit, expressing hope that it would provide an opportunity for him to gain a deeper understanding of the geopolitics of the Asia-Pacific region.
“The implementation of tariff policies by the Trump administration has previously affected the investment climate, and we hope that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will be able to engage in constructive discussions to address the regional economic challenges arising from these policies,” he said.
