Anwar Holds Brief Meeting With Trump Before His Departure For Tokyo
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 27 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today held a brief meeting with United States President Donald Trump before his departure for Tokyo, Japan, following his two-day visit here for ASEAN meetings.
Anwar said the meeting provided an opportunity for both leaders to review the outcomes of the Malaysia-US bilateral discussions held earlier, particularly in the areas of strategic cooperation involving trade, technology and regional security.
“I also conveyed my deep appreciation to President Trump for his instrumental role in advancing the KL Peace Accord and the Gaza Peace Plan, both of which serve as beacons of hope towards achieving a just and lasting peace,” Anwar said in a Facebook post today.
Trump, who arrived in Kuala Lumpur yesterday to attend the 13th ASEAN-United States Summit, also held several bilateral meetings with regional leaders during his two-day visit.
The US President also witnessed the signing of a peace agreement between Thailand and Cambodia, aimed at resolving the decades-long border dispute.
The 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, hosted by Malaysia under the theme ‘Inclusivity and Sustainability’, focused on strengthening regional integration, deepening economic cooperation and addressing pressing global challenges, including peace and security in the Asia-Pacific region.
