Malaysia Assisted In Bridging Regional Development Gap At ASEAN Summit - PM Anwar
CEBU (The Philippines), May 8 (Bernama) -- Malaysia played a role in strengthening the ASEAN spirit during the ASEAN Summit, particularly in efforts to bridge the regional development gap, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.
Besides upholding attitudes and principles aligned with international norms and laws, Malaysia had also expanded and created trade networks, boosted investments, strengthened digital coverage and functions, as well as enhanced food security during the summit, he added.
“As a result, Malaysia will continue to play its role in strengthening relations among ASEAN countries, especially in addressing the global energy supply crisis that is affecting everyone,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Anwar led the Malaysian delegation to the 48th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings held here from May 7 to 8.
He arrived together with his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Dr Wan Ismail, and was accompanied by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.
The Philippines assumed the ASEAN Chairmanship from Malaysia on Jan 1, 2026 under the theme “Navigating Our Future, Together,” centred on three pillars: the Peace and Security Pillar, the Prosperity Corridor, and People Empowerment.
